Cardiovascular Degeneration and Regeneration

The development area Cardiovascular Degeneration and Regeneration addresses the understanding of degenerative processes that are caused by ischemia, calcification, and destroyed currents (potentials) and the establishment of new mechanisms and strategies for regeneration in the vascular system and heart.

Biobanks and clinical cohorts are an important foundation of this focus.

There are currently eight institutes and departments involved in this focus.

The restaffing of the Institute of Molecular Cardiovascular Research or IMCAR is a decisive step for the further development of this area.

The collaboration with the Cardiovascular Research Institute or CARIM at the University of Maastricht is particularly important.
