Returning to Work and Childcare
Uniklinik’s Daycare Center
Uniklinik’s Schneebergkids daycare center is currently offering academic, non-academic, and medical staff working at Uniklinik a total of 150 childcare spots. These are available as follows:
- 60 spots for children aged 0 to 3
- 50 spots for children aged 3 to 6
- 40 spots for children in a mixed-age group – aged 2 to 6
The center is open Monday to Friday, from 6:45am to 4:30pm, all year round.
At least one parent must hold a 50% position or more at Uniklinik for their children to be accepted at the daycare center. The care costs are calculated on a salary-based sliding scale, (in accordance with the City of Aachen's constitution of August 1, 2015). A flat fee for a food package will also be charged – this currently amounts to 26 euros a month.
The registration process runs from January to the end of March for the upcoming kindergarten year.
You can find the registration form and further information on Unklinik’s Family Service page (in German).
Short-Term Childcare
If your private childcare arrangement is not available and you must attend a training event or you have an official meeting, the Faculty of Medicine can provide short-term childcare for you. Uniklinik employees are eligible for up to five hours’ free care for children aged 0-6. This includes care at the Kinderland child care facility or at your home. Kinderland is situated at the Uniklinik entry hall, across from the information desk. It is open from 1 pm to 8 pm during the week and from 1pm to 6pm on weekends and holidays.
Contact: to arrange short-term childcare, please send an email to Uniklinik’s Family Services or ring +49 241 80 80183.
The Kids Box
In addition to short-term childcare, the Faculty of Medicine also offers a so-called Kids Box. If your childcare arrangement is not available at short notice, Uniklinik employees can borrow the Kids Box and look after their child in their own office. The Kids Box will be wheeled to your workspace – automatically transforming it into a family room. The box contains a portable cot, a fold-up mattress, a play mat, a high chair that attaches to your desk, a stool, and table, as well as various items to play and draw with. The Kids Box can be set up in your office so as to offer parents privacy when breastfeeding and changing diapers.
Contact: to borrow the Kids Box, please send an email to Uniklinik’s Family Services or ring +49 241 80 80183.

- Monday to Friday from 1pm to 8pm
- Weekends and holidays from 1.30pm to 6pm
