The Faculty of Medicine is made up of 24 institutes, 30 departments, and four dental clinics. The number of professors from chairs and teacher and research areas is currently around 90. Approximately 1,900 students are enrolled in the medicine course of study, with 600 students in the remaining courses of study.

The faculty annually receives around 100 million Euros from the State of NRW to finance its activities in research and teaching. This funding is the so called Landeszuführungsbetrag. The faculty also receives research funding from external parties amounting to 44 million Euros.
