The Faculty’s research boasts the following features:
- It is based on an interdisciplinary approach and harmonizes with RWTH’s strategic goals and direction
- It has a sound history of academic excellence – evidenced by the extent of input and output
- The Faculty’s outstanding reputation means that it can acquire competitive group funding opportunities
- Its translational performance is internationally competitive and aims to consistently translate fundamental research findings so that they can be practically applied at the clinic
In future, the central and connecting features in research at the University will be the multidisciplinary, research-based description, analysis, understanding, and design of complex systems. The Faculty of Medicine has responded by developing its previous specializations in order to increasingly engender these aspects in its research. This new understanding should also result in new diagnostic and therapeutic options:
Organ Crosstalk looks into the interaction of organs and their self-regulation in the form of research that is relevant to clinical application.
Phase Transition in Disease
Translational Neurosciences delves into emerging phenomena such as neural plasticity with the help of computational neurosciences, emotion and cognition, as well as sensory and motor functions. This field also investigates the regulation of psychotic disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.
Medical Technology & Digital Life Sciences
All research specializations must be centered around, or strongly connected to, the foundation of our Faculty’s establishment – Medical Technology & Digital Life Sciences.
