Blended Learning

Blended Learning combines traditional teaching with e-learning. Classes that take place in person such as lectures, seminars, tutorials, and discussions are combined with digital media and virtual classrooms.

It is important that blended learning is curricularly included and that the in person phases and the e-learning phases are didactically coordinated with each other. The percentage, duration, and oder of in person and virtual phases can vary depending on the didactic and methodological planning of the course. (more about Blended Learning)

Support for Blended Learning

A series of media projects at the Faculty of Medicine have been and are currently promoted that include and support blended learning concepts. Promotion for blended learning encompasses the following measures:

  • The Audiovisual Media Center, AVMZ for short, advises and supports instructors with the conception and realization of blended learning and assumes the related media production. This includes the development of instructional videos, interactive multimedia learning applications, serious games, Web 2.0 solutions, to online scenarios in the virtual classroom.
  • emedia skills lab – The Faculty of Medicine teaching/learning platform offers instructors and students password protected access to teaching materials and learning applications and a series of functions for networking and social learning.
  • sam – The semantic network enables a targeted search for media materials for teaching and studies.

Financial funding for blended learning and media-supported teaching comes from study contribution fees and funds for the promotion of innovative teaching projects.

emedia skills lab and Blended Learning

In the emedia skills lab  there are media materials from projects in various disciplines that originated in collaboration with the AVMZ. The teaching and learning materials developed in these projects are didactically different, support blended learning concepts, and open up possibilities for new and innovative teaching scenarios and learning forms.
