Restructuring

The purely dental courses were reworked in 2011 and were provided with new concepts. The Phantom Course II, in the 4th semester, received a new curriculum. A learning goal catalogue was created for this course as well and new teaching methods and clinical content was included. New forms of teaching include impulse presentations; furthermore students can work on content in small groups (group puzzles) and complete practicals. Class is supplemented with simulation patients, and an e-learning module on the theoretical and practical aspects of total prosthetics was integrated.

The e-module was well received by students and used as preparation for the course as well as for the exam. Students also demonstrated enthusiasm for lessons with simulation patients and for clinical exercises.

Finally, the teaching methods and exam formats were coordinated with each other. The multiple choice exam is now supplemented by a OSCE or Objective Structured Clinical Examination course, in which both theoretical and practical knowledge is tested.
